In this course, students read examples and then present their own cases surrounding the following topics: Beginnings: Introductions and Engagement; Middle Phase: Core Issues and Major Theme Development; Transference and Countertransference; and Endings: Termination Issues in Treatment. This course requires participants to complete Level I of GAP training before registering.

Diagnosis and the Body

This course will focus on learning to attend to ourselves and our client’s somatic processes through kinesthetic awareness, and using this as orientation and guidance in developing a diagnosis of relational field. We will address the historical evolution of somatic awareness in treatment and focus on practical application of somatic awareness in our Gestalt tradition, including the concepts of kinesthesia, kinesthetic resonance, and diagnosing by the aesthetic criteria.   The course will consist of 15 hours of lecture and experiential work plus a short reflection paper for people in the PA program taking this course as part of their ongoing training.
